AUKUS is the trilateral security partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States, announced 15 September 2021. It has two pillars:
Pillar II is the more commercially relevant pillar for a sovereign-AI company. It is multi-programme, multi-year, and explicitly designed to bring non-traditional defence suppliers (including SMEs and dual-use technology companies) into the trilateral defence innovation ecosystem.

DEFONEOS is designed to be AUKUS-compatible — it can interoperate with US and Australian defence AI systems, share data via SIGIL-anchored chains, and meet trilateral assurance standards. But it is not AUKUS-dependent — it does not require AUKUS participation to function, and it retains full UK sovereignty regardless of AUKUS status.
